GIMP will no longer be installed by default

If this report is true, then GIMP will no longer be installed by default in future versions of Ubuntu. Which is kind of sad, considering how it's been a mainstay in all major distros that I've used, but I can't say I fault the decision either. Although I am a regular GIMP user, I can see why for most users a simpler app for managing photos would serve better.
